Many people hear the word antioxidants, and while it sounds like a positive word, they do not understand what they are and how they can benefit the body. Common fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants include carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, squash, kale, sweet potatoes, collards, cantaloupe, and apricots. All of these are bright-colored, which is an easy way to remember them.

Besides fresh fruits and vegetables, antioxidants are found in nuts, seeds, liver oil, and whole grains. If fruits, vegetables, and nuts are not your favorite foods, there is quite a list of other ways to increase your antioxidant consumption. These include soy, red wine, purple grapes, watermelon, flaxseed, and tea. Vitamin supplementation that has antioxidants includes coenzyme Q10 and glutathione.

Consuming foods rich in antioxidants are good for your health, heart, and overall well-being. If that is not enough to make you eat more foods rich in antioxidants, you should consider the fact that they slow down the aging process. It’s true; antioxidants provide anti-aging properties for all the cells in your body. Remember, oxidation slowly causes the body to lose its youthfulness, but you can slow this process down by just eating food that is good for you! Many people report better over skin appearance when they are consuming more fresh fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Lastly, with age comes many degenerative diseases, antioxidants protect against these since they slow down the entire aging process.
